The historic center of Salerno
The historic center of Salerno is the ancient heart of our city: it develops in the mazes of alleys of medieval origin from the western end of the city to the Rafastia creek. The settlement originated around 197 B.C. when the Romans founded ancient Salernum.
The approximate limits of the historic center are considered to be the Fusandola creek (where there was the so-called "Portacatena"), the beach, the hill of Arechi Castle (called "Mount Bonadies"), and the old Carmine climb (near the "Portanova").
There are so many things to see in this part of the city, among them we would like to point out:
- The Duomo
- via dei mercanti
- Fruscione palace
- the picture gallery
- the museum of the salernitana medical school
